30 Year Refugees

In Malawi’s Dzaleka refugee camp outside of Lilongwe, aid ineffectiveness and corruption is rampant. Refugees face sexual violence by aid workers, discrimination from medical professionals, and insufficient food aid. Despite this refugee camp having existed for over 20 years and being home to 34,000 refugees, it remains largely ignored. This feature will highlight the experiences of different refugees, uncovering the ways in which the humanitarian governance of the camp works to reduce the quality of life of its inhabitants.
