Photojournalism: 30 Year Refugees
Photojournalism: 30 Year RefugeesIn Malawi’s Dzaleka refugee camp outside of Lilongwe, aid ineffectiveness and corruption is rampant. Refugees face sexual violence by aid workers, discrimination from medical professionals, and insufficient food aid. Despite this refugee camp having existed for over 20 years and being home to 34, 000 refugees, it remains largely ignored. This feature will highlight the experiences of different refugees, uncovering the ways in which the humanitarian governance of the camp works to reduce the quality of life of its inhabitants.

Seeking SanctuaryThe Fourth Universalist Society at Central Park West has been providing sanctuary to Aura Hernandez, 37, an undocumented Guatemalan immigrant, and her 18-month old daughter Camila, for the last five and a half months. Not an isolated case, many undocumented immigrants are seeking sanctuary in NYC houses of worship to avoid deportation by ICE.

Photojournalism: Agbogbloshie
Photojournalism: Agbogbloshie  Awal Mohammed, a young migrant worker in his early 20's, leads a group of boys in burning imported electronic waste. On Average, each boy earns less than 20 USD a month – yet the job poses extreme health risks.   In June, the Accra Metropolitan Assembly demolished the homes of over 20,000 people in Agbogbloshie in order to access and dredge a waterway that had caused flooding in Accra. Awal Mohammed consequently lost his home and his job, forcing him to migrate back to his hometown. These photos document Mohammed’s struggle to work and protect his family.
